Setting up a windows 95 computer to access the Internet

Internet Explorer 3
1) Locate the Internet Icon On your main screen (your desktop), and double click it.
2) The next screen may come up to a wizard screen (if not skip to step 4), click next.
3) Click on current, the 3rd. option down, then next
4) Click Ok the the error screen that says "Internet Explorer cannot open the internet site. . . ."
5) Goto the view drop down menu at the top then click options.

Alternativly to step 5, you can right click on

6) Click on the connection tab, check "connect to the Internet as needed" box. (If it is Greyed out click here)
7) Go down to the "use the following dialup networking" box and click add.
8) Where it says "type the name of the computer you are dialing", type "Chain O' Lakes Internet", click next.
9) Leave the area code blank unless it is a long distance call, then type in the local access number either (331-4333, 258-0776, 932-1105, 587-1160 or 237-7707), click next.
10) Click finish
11) Click on the navigation tab at the top.
12) Go down to the address box, back it up to the "http://", type "www.torchlake.com" .
13) A couple of lines above that it should say "Page" then in the box say "Start Page", change "start page" to "search page", by clicking on it and then on "search page".
14) Go back down to address (it should of changed) and back
it up to the "http://", and type "www.torchlake.com/links.htm".
note: the "http://" at first may say "ttp://", that is alright the
"h" is just hidden.
15) Go to the programs tab at the top and note what email program you are using(ie. internet mail, outlook express . . .). Then click on Apply then OK
16) Goto the mail icon on the tool bar, if you don't see it you may need to maximize the window by clicking the square in the top right corner. Then click on read mail.
17) Click on the email program that they have to the left: Internet Mail, Outlook Express, or Outlook 97
18) Close the email program and close out of Internet Explorer.
19) Double Click on the Internet Icon and it should come upto Connect to Chain O' Lakes Internet (some of it may be cut off).
20 Insert your username and password, make sure they are lowercase and the username does not have the "@torchlake.com" at the end of it.
21) Make sure the phone number is either one of these local calls (331-4333, 258-0776, 932-1105, 587-1160 or 237-7707) if long distance there should be a 1231 in front of them.
22) Click connect and you should be all set!! If you have any connecting problems click here.
